about us

Parent Power is parent led and parent run; we aim to provide the best possible environment for our families to come together in a safe, non-judgemental fun way. We hold weekly meetings around the city and these groups have friends old and new and ones you have not yet met. We are also actively involved in campaigning for inclusion across the city.

how it began... with sara smithson, managing director and mum

25th January 2006 was a rather devastating day. Ben arrived at 31 weeks and was immediately put onto life support; that put our family into complete freefall.

By the time Ben was 14 months of age his development was significantly delayed and Education Leeds provided us with a Portage home visitor and we quickly started making progress. In the first 18 months of hospital stays, illness, life support, and countless doctors made for a very trying time. I am pleased to say we came through this time with only a few scars and we are incredibly proud parents of both of our children.

Our experiences and that of our friends who also have children with additional needs made us want to change the way support was offered, we started Parent Power in Leeds.
